Why small pages still matter

A page starts doing its job when a reader can use it. Text, a clear hierarchy and a small number of links are often enough.

Before adding a dependency, ask what happens on a slow connection. Images can have explicit dimensions, scripts can wait, and the main content can arrive in the first response.

Performance work is not only a benchmark. It is a way of making room for people on older devices and unpredictable networks.
